Meet Dr. Simonsen

Licensed Psychologist

My goal as a psychologist is to help you feel better.

 

I provide a caring environment to clients who come from all walks of life. The common thread among all of us is a desire to change and improve our lives so that we are happy, prosperous, and secure. I will help you see your life and life choices through a new lens, offering you the opportunity for life improvement. Bringing awareness to life is the starting point of change.

 

I have a pragmatic therapeutic approach to life’s problems. One of my deepest desires is to help you reduce your suffering and improve your life. We will engage in work that is challenging but rewarding. I use a variety of techniques in therapy so that your work is tailor-made to your needs.

I will introduce you to cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness techniques, psycho-dynamic models, acceptance and commitment therapy, and humanistic approaches to help you make sense of your life and reduce your stressors. Above all, I want to see you as a person and build a healthy relationship with you. I work with adults of all ages and genders. I work with individuals, couples, and offer group psycho-therapy at times.  Occasionally, I work with older adolescents who seek out my services with their parent’s consent.

MY SERVICES

Individual Therapy 

Individual therapy involves a unique, one-to-one and face-face-face, professional relationship between me, the psychologist, and you, the client. We will identify current issues that are impacting your life and come up with a plan to benefit you and help you feel better at a pace you are comfortable with. Sometimes we use past experiences to explore the present, so knowing your whole story will be important. My goal will be to help you make sense out of the problems you are experiencing and then help you get ready to make change.

Video Therapy

Video therapy is the same as individual therapy, but over a HIPPA compliant, secure and protected internet connection. This allows for distance therapeutic interventions. It is a great option for you if live in a city other than Dallas, or if you have conflicts that prevent you from being able to make it to an office session.

Group Therapy 

Group therapy typically involves a small number of individuals who share similar problems or concerns. Therapy groups may be time-limited (e.g., a total of 12 sessions from start to finish), or they may be ongoing, with some individuals entering and others leaving the group over a period of months or even years. Group therapy opportunities will be announced on the website as they are offered.

INSURANCE

INSURANCE

I participate in the following insurance programs: (Note: Network participation may change at any time so please inquire about your insurance plan.)  

• Aetna​

• Blue Cross Blue Shield
• Cigna
• Magellan
• Medicare Part B 

 

Generally, if I am in network, you would  be responsible for your deductible and then any co-pays or co-insurance costs and your insurance company pays the rest. This will depend on your particular insurance.

I also work as an out-of-network provider for some insurance companies. In that case, you would be responsible for the cost of the session at the time we meet. I will provide you with a superbill that you can use to send to your insurance company if you choose to file your own claim. I would be pleased to confirm with your insurance company the nature and extent of your benefits for mental/behavioral health care.
