FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How much does therapy cost?

My rates are $185 for our initial meeting and then $160 for 45 minute session after our initial meeting. If our session time is longer, say 55 minutes, the cost is $185 per session. Also, I do charge a $75 missed session fee if you schedule a session and don’t cancel it at least one 24 hour business day in advance.

How long will I be in therapy?

The length of time we work together depends on what issues you bring to our work. I have done brief therapy with some people that only lasts about 4-6 sessions. Others, I have worked with for longer periods of time. We can discuss our timeline and how often we meet at our first meeting.

How long is a session?

Sessions usually last about 45 minutes. Sometimes, a little longer time session can be really effective in helping you, so we may stay in session about an hour.

What happens during our first meeting?

Let me start a little before that. When we schedule an appointment, you will receive a link to the paperwork that you will complete at least 24 hours before our first meeting. This will give me the basic information I need to be prepared for our meeting. When you arrive, I will get copies of your driver’s license and insurance card and your form of payment.

Once we finish the paperwork, you will tell me your what brings you in to see me and how I can help you. The first session always looks a little bit more like an interview than other sessions. I will collect a lot of information to best determine how we can move forward to help you. That will be my job. Your job is to size me up and see if I am a person you feel comfortable with and want to do this work with. Psychologist/client fit is important. If you don’t feel connected with me, I want to help you find someone who you will feel connected to.

How do I pay for my sessions?

I will collect fees at the time of the session. I accept cash, checks, and credit cards. If you are using in-network insurance, you will pay your portion and insurance will send me the rest after I file your insurance.

If I need you to talk to my doctor or family, will you?

This is a great question and brings up the topic of confidentiality. You privacy is important to me. I used HIPAA and HITECH compliant software to protect your medical records. Before we start working together, I will give you a document that spells out how I protect your privacy and when, by law, I must break your confidentiality. Specifically for this question, I will be happy to release your information or speak to your doctor or family member when you sign a consent for me to do so.

How does video therapy work?

Video therapy is a confidential way for us to meet online through a secure server. You will need access to a fast internet connection and either a cell phone, tablet, or computer that has a camera. I will send you a computer link and at the time of our meeting you will click on the link and be taken to a video portal. You will join the conversation and we will have our “face to face” meeting online. This s a great option for people who travel or live outside the DFW area.

Insurance works a little differently with video and tele therapy, so we will need to find out about what is covered by your plan and what isn’t. Fees are the same as traditional face to face therapy.

Will you bill insurance for me?

If I am in-network with your insurance company, I will bill insurance for you. If I am out of network, then I will supply you with a superbill that you can then send to your insurance company. When that happens, you will pay for the full session at the time we meet and then handle reimbursement from your insurance company on your own.
